If the root word ends in a ‘y’, change the ‘y’ to an ‘i’ and then add ‘ly’ [angrily, cheekily]. 3. If the root word ends in ‘-le’, the ‘-le’ is changed to ‘-ly’ [cuddly, gently]. 4. Phase 4 table cards for initial blends/consonant clusters; ideal for group/table work; ideal too if printed on card or laminated for year-on-year use. Children have to look at the picture, say what it is, listen to the first 'blend' and spell the word with its correct 'blend grapheme. The rest of the spelling is given, so the focus is just on the initial blend - the focus of Phase 4.
